With temperatures nearing 100 degrees Fahrenheit, we decided on a quick rockhounding trip close to home. We visited a location just a few minutes from Salina, Utah.

The heat limited our time, but as is often the case on our rockhounding excursions, we didn’t collect anything, nor did we find anything particularly unique. Even without new discoveries, we had a lot of fun, as always. Here’s a glimpse of what we saw:

Some nice druzy on a stone.
This is what appears to be Stromatolite. The fossilized remains of what was once cyanobacteria
Just a fun piece of sandstone
Salina Breccia. This material makes beautiful cabochons.
A small tree growing on a large boulder.
An interesting plant growing in a crack in a rock.
