Another Visit to Utah Dump Digger

We’ve had the opportunity to visit Utah Dump Digger in American Fork, Utah on several occasions.  Today we made a quick stop and made some small purchases.

While we didn’t get much material on this visit we did get a few nice things.

Opalized Petrified Wood

We were able to purchase a few pieces of opalized petrified wood from Silver Creek Junction near Park City, Utah.  This is a fun find for us as I love working with common opal and this material is no longer available because of development over the last few decades.

Opalized Petrified Wood

The opalized wood seemed to be pretty solid and had some nice patterns and colors.

We decided to cut one of the pieces as soon as we got home.  This is what it looked like once it was slabbed.

This material is absolutely gorgeous!  Nice herringbone patterns can be seen as well as beautiful mossy inclusions.   Each piece of this material is unique and it’s going to be fun to see what the slabs from the other pieces will look like.

Coprolite From The Henry Mountains

This Coprolite, fossilized dinosaur excrement from around 156-146 million years ago, came from the Henry Mountains in Central Utah.  The bright red spots that can be seen on the surface give us a hint of what this might look like on the inside.

Laguna Lace Agate

Although this piece of Laguna Lace didn’t have a whole lot of color it did have some nice patterns so we decided we would purchase it.  Hopefully, we will get a few nice slabs out of it.

Leopardskin Jasper

We also picked up a couple of pieces of Leopardskin Jasper.  This beautiful material was once plentiful in rock shops but has become more difficult to find over the years.  As the availability of this beautiful material has decreased the cost has increased.
