Came across this Long-Nosed Leopard Lizard while rockhounding. He was about a foot long from head to tail.
It’s a well-known fact that not every rockhounding expedition yields the desired treasures. This particular outing certainly fell into the category of those less-than-successful ventures. As we always strive to venture into uncharted territory, we chose an area completely new to our explorations. Although our pockets remained devoid of coveted rock specimens, the trip was not without its merits. The surrounding landscape unfolded before us in breathtaking beauty, and the invigorating physical activity provided a welcome sense of accomplishment.
The terrain we traversed was characterized by an overwhelming abundance of igneous formations. Our typical strategy involves seeking out regions adjacent to extensive outcrops of igneous rock, as these locations often harbor promising deposits of agate and jasper. However, on this particular excursion, the expanse of igneous rock seemed to stretch endlessly, and unfortunately, we did not encounter any traces of the sought-after gemstones.

Igneous rock everywhere
