Gold Sheen Obsidian

SB1

Description

Gold Sheen Obsidian is a rare form of obsidian or volcanic glass that, at first appearance, looks nearly identical to black obsidian.

Gold Sheen Obsidian rough

Gold Sheen Obsidian rough.  Lines can be seen which are caused by trapped air bubbles.

Looking closely,  lines can be seen in the obsidian when viewed at the proper angle.   These lines are caused by water vapor bubbles trapped inside the obsidian.  These trapped bubbles create an illusion when light reflects off the bubbles called chatoyance.

This illusion is difficult to capture properly in photographs but can be seen in videos.

Here are some of the slabs we have in inventory.
