Description
Sodalite can be found in many parts of the world. It is sometimes mistaken for Lapis Lazuli which has a similar appearance. Both Lapis Lazuli and Sodalite have white calcite bands.
Sodalite tends to have a darker coloration and can sometimes appear almost black. Lapis Lazuli is usually brighter in color and often contains pyrite inclusions.
Some Sodalite has calcite bands that are peach or pink in color instead of white.
Care should be used when purchasing Lapis Lazuli or Sodalite as they are often misidentified for sale.
