Hydrothermal Breccia

This beautiful hydrothermal breccia was created when silica was deposited by hot hydrothermal fluids, shattering the limestone host rock.

The colors of both the brecciated host rock and the silica (chalcedony) vary depending on the location where it is formed.

Light brown, tan, orange, or yellow breccia filled by blue, gray or brown silica are often found. Rarely it may have red colors as well.

The material is usually solid, easy to work, and makes fabulous cabochons.
