Description
We acquired this distinctive jasper rough from a rock shop located in northern Utah, which, according to reports, obtained it from a significant private collection situated in southern Utah. The material’s striking yellow and red hues, evoking mustard and ketchup, have resulted in its designation as Mustard & Ketchup Jasper. It is also recognized by other names, including Yellowcat Jasper or Bumblebee Jasper. We have also observed this material being referred to as Yellowcat Petrified Wood, although we do not believe it is actually petrified wood. According to the rock shop proprietor, specimens featuring translucent chalcedony are termed Tin Can Jasper, as they originate from the Tin Can Flats area in Utah, a name that acknowledges the numerous tin cans found in the region. Given its provenance from an established collection, it is unlikely that additional quantities of this jasper will become available to us.
